One for the Wall photography bio picture
  • Here is what you might like to know about me!
I am a natural light photographer residing in Waterloo, Ontario. I specialize in children and family photography.
I am a mom to two incredible and verbally gifted little girls, wife to one amazing man and mama to one adorable lasapoodle.
I love ketchup chips, anything from starbucks, anything from MAC, skinny jeans, mint gum, GAP kids and reality tv. I have the most supportive and loving group of friends a woman could ever ask for.
I have an extreme fear of flying, I still don't like brussel sprouts and I talk too much...sometimes.
I believe you get the life you want. I believe in following your dreams, seeing the beauty in people and living life large everyday.

I love photography but, I am crazy about people! I look forward to helping you tell your family's story...giving you One for the Wall.

happy birthday heather

Hello to everyone!

This blogpost is long overdue. Two years and four photoshoots overdue to be exact! Heather is one of my favourite clients. She has a passion for photographs that rivals mine. Her home is full of the photos we created together. And Heather continues to book me every six months!

It is fitting that Heather and her families’ post is ready to be published on the eve of her birthday weekend. I know you will love this gift Heather. A sincere thank you to you and your family for all of the great memories. I cannot believe how much the kiddies have grown!

Much love,

Hilary

Happy Birthday Heather!

baby p designs

Hello to everyone!
It’s been an absolute honour to have been asked by Angie and Amy of I Heart Faces to be the guest judge for their photo challenge this week! I have taken a quick break to blog…so many amazing entries to go through. The winner will be announced tomorrow morning!!

I am really excited to blog this session with Jill and her family. Jill is the owner/operator of Baby P Designs. She makes newborn and baby hats and blankets. She appeals to moms and dads and photographers with her beautiful designs. Ang and I are so fortunate to have Jill’s knits for our Along Came Baby sessions.

Saving up all my blogging for the winter has its advantages…it completely brightens up my day and really inspires me for a new season! Thank you for being such a wonderful family to work with. Ang and I also cannot thank you enough for all of the support you have given our baby business. It means so much!

Much love,

Hilary

love sweet love

Hello to everyone!

It’s January 19th and it’s finally snowing. I cannot deny that I have been very happy that I was in my hunter rain boots up until yesterday. With all of the spring and summer bookings lately I can’t help but want winter to be over quickly. But that will make me that much closer to 39 so I will embrace the winter months!

I have promised myself that blogging will become a higher priority for me this year. So, here we go.

I don’t often photograph couples. But I should. I have written much about how important it is to see and feel the connection between people when you are photographing them. The connection that Kristen and Steve had was simply incredible. It was not one I needed to look for.

This is what love is.

Thank you Kristen and Steve for the little reminder. I adore you both and truly hope to photograph your wedding in a sunny destination in the years to come.

Much love on this snowy day,

Hilary

Looking back 2011

Hello to everyone!

I sat down at my computer mid afternoon today (after a hefty sleep in with Kate and a couple of hours reading the Steve Jobs biography). I turned on my new tv (a gift from my fam for my office!). And I began to sort through photos.

I have not gotten dressed. I have watched Wedding Crashers almost twice (I am currently half way through for the second time). I have watched 27 Dresses twice through and cried at the ending once. I have eaten a bag of chips, a plate of philo pastry appetizers left over from last night and a bowl of my favourite ice cream; mint chocolate chip.

I have sifted through hundreds of familiar faces today. I have given much thought to you all over the last few hours. I have done my best to get as many of you in here as possible! I will be blogging these family shoots in their entirety in the weeks to come.

Any thoughts I had that I didn’t do enough this year are gone and replaced with a lot of pride tonight:)

So what did I do in 2011….

- started off the year in NYC taking a course with the most kind and creative soul,  Shannon Sewell. (SO excited to have Shannon back again this summer for another workshop and more girl time!)

- worked with the insanely talented, Jordan Pressault, to have a video made about the importance of photos in our lives (you can click on the video heading above to see it!)

- introduced a new One for the Wall logo, colours, blog layout and information packages

- launched a newborn photography business with my most incredible friend and business partner, Angela Smith, called Along Came Baby

- had my work published in 3 magazines and a book

- worked with Tonia Jahshan to photograph the Steeped Tea 2011 catalogue

- won first place in the NACAP international image competition (babies category)

- was featured on the Melanie Ashcraft photography blog and Kelsey’s Andersen’s Evoking You blog

- hosted Shannon Sewell here in Ontario for a children’s photography workshop (this was a highlight for sure!)

- attended a phenomenal two day photography workshop in Toronto with Silvana of Impulse photography. Here I met some really amazing friends that I keep in touch with to this day!

- Ang and I were the official photographers in the Canadian Country Music Award gift lounge hosted by Raj of Fronte and Senter Communications (meeting Richard Marx and Chantal Kreviazuk were highlights!)

- rounded out the year with  a road trip to Michigan with Wendy MacKrimmon to the HER photography conference. There I re-united with fellow photographer friends Jessica Paige and Melissa Hutchinson. I was so fortunate to have met and become friends with Angie Arthur and Amy Locurto of I Heart Faces. (Looking foward to having them here this spring for a photographers retreat!)

But most importantly I photographed close to 200 families in 2011. I saw many faces for the second and third time. I also met many new faces this year. Ones that I look forward to seeing again in 2012.

I continue to be amazed by the people that I meet and the stories I hear. I am touched by people’s kindness and appreciation for the work that I do. Looking back on this year I can say with confidence that I know why I do what I do. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I also want to thank all of the wonderful photographer friends (both “old” and new) for being so kind and supportive. I often wonder what I did to deserve the people I have in my life.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for another beautiful year. I look forward to what 2012 holds.

Much love and appreciation,

Hilary

My friends

Hello to everyone!

The photos that I am posting tonight are just as special to me as they are to the beautiful family in them. I am not sure where to begin to explain to you all what an incredible family this is (right down to their dog!!). This family lives a few doors away. A part of our everyday life. Angela is my friend. She is my business partner. She is my neighbour. Confidant and biggest supporter. Without her I would not be sitting here today with a successful portrait business. She has been behind every decision. Along every part of the crazy roller coaster. And she still thinks I am pretty special.

Behind every great woman…well in my case…is another great woman. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for one of the best rides of my life. Nursing home stories ss. xo

I am so happy that she now has images of herself with her wonderfully kind and loving family to grace the walls of her home.

Much love to you all,

Hilary

It is obvious when there is a good heart and soul both in front of and behind the lens. What a gift to have this alliance, Hilary and to be in such a wonderful place together. All the best to you.

You have been one of the best things that has ever come into my life and I love you to bits. Thanks for being you. My shoulder for the hard times and my personal cheerleader for the good. You are special Hil in so many ways. Proud to be your friend. Sniffle sniffle.
