Hilary believes deeply in the power of a photograph. To change and shift perceptions. To contribute positively and to honour individuals in society. To grow our understanding of humanity. To tell stories.
or more than a decade, in collaboration with both the Waterloo-Wellington Down Syndrome Society and the Canadian Down Syndrome society, Hilary has created hundreds of images to close the gap in authentic representation of those with Down syndrome in mainstream media, where very little imagery previously existed. She is honoured to have had the opportunity to work with babies, children, teens and adults in Canada to better tell the stories of those with Down syndrome in all areas of life; home, school, work, hobbies; in friendship and in love in a more authentic and ethical way. It is also a time to reflect of the future and the ways in which those with Down syndrome can continue to live meaningful lives through employment and through connections to their communities. Hilary has also worked with Dense Breasts Canada to give a platform to breast cancer survivors to share their messages of support, hope and advocacy.
